Costs Rising !
Ok we knew what we were building was bigger and better than our other build option but we are starting to get a handle on the increased complexity. Items that were just a little larger are in some cases 3 times mores expensive due to the construction requirements. I.E. The floor I beams were initially going to cost us about $1,700 and the revised cost for the new design has just come in at $5,600...
Ouch...
Similarily the roof trusses for my "Square Box Design" was only $6,700 and is now $8,600... due to our multi tiered roof design.....
Still more surprises to come.
Expecting quotes for Heating (HVAC) Heat Pump with oil back-up, etc.. next week.Already know its coming in at about $3K more that initially estimated.
Our first fireplace quote is also coming in about 1K higher....
Last but not least
Kitchen Catastrophy "To be or not to be?"
It looks like our "Auctioned" Kitchen is going to be causing us a little more strain that first anticipated. Were we given our first written quote after initially setting the bar 3 weeks ago, only to see ourselves being presented with a price 10K higher than expected and not quoting to our preferred materials.
Fortunately we have 3 other quotes in our range and prefered materials to fall back on but "We need to get our money back !" The way the auction worked is that it was sponsored by the ottawa citizen. They give the money to charity and offer X $ worth of advertising to the firms that sold the items. So we had to pay the Ottawa citizen up front as part of the deal, while the goods haven't yet been formally defined or delivered. Our demand letter to the kitchen firm has not yet been responded to(We established our terms $, and materials) .... Later this week....
A no go on the house showing
The couple loved the house, but not the location....location, location...
We have set up a new meeting with a new realtor for Thursday as our other contract expires with our old realtor on the 31st... Too bad.....
Our Spirts are high !
Yup that means we starting drinking alot ! Just kidding... Here are the latest shots of the construction site....(Always lifts your sprits to see it coming along...)
